Quietly precise cooking, grounded in place and season.
The road back to Bakewell
After 16 years of grafting from pot washer to head chef, Lee Smith returned closer to his Mansfield hometown to open Lovage. His path includes holding one Michelin star and becoming a regional finalist in the 2019 Great British Menu. The food is sentimental to his upbringing and reflects his growth as a chef.
Lunch, dinner and private dining
Restaurant opening hours: Thurs - Sat Lunch 12pm - 2pm, Wed - Sat Dinner 6.30pm - 9pm. The £25 Lunch Market Menu is one course, 45 minutes, and walk ins are welcome but subject to availability. The 3 Course A la Carte offer is £50. Private dining is available for groups between 6 & 12 people, with a private dining space for up to 12 people.
Menus and dietary care
The menus shown here are samples and prices may change. Either the A la Carte Menu or Tasting Menu must be chosen by the entire table. Please give 48 hours prior notice for allergies and dietaries, including 48 hours for any extreme dietary requirements. Lovage is unable to offer a vegan menu. A pescetarian tasting menu is also available. The 5 Course Tasting Menu is available Wednesday & Thursday evening only. Please allow up to 3 hours for the seven-course tasting menu.
A direct request, with Lovage etiquette
Use the direct form for parties up to 4 and contact Lovage directly for bookings over 4 people or bookings of 6 people or more. We allow 2 hours for your table on the A la Carte 2 hour booking window. The table is yours for the whole of service, but arriving more than 30 minutes after your booking time without warning may lose the table. The existing policy asks for credit card details, though No payment will be taken upon making a reservation. This demo removes that card wall. Lovage will confirm your request shortly. Please give at least 24 hours prior notice to cancel, change the date, or alter your party size. A reservation not honoured or cancelled less than 24 hours before arrival can carry a £20 per person charge under the existing policy. Lovage is a small business that relies on prior notice of cancellations so that the table can be offered again. A discretionary 10% service charge is added to the bill.
A room with a warm welcome
Lovage is on the ground floor, with disability access through the Bath Street entrance. Children are more than welcome, with a kids menu, multiple high chairs, and space for prams. Note any highchair reserved with the booking. Paid parking directly opposite is available on Bath Street. For a bespoke cake, dessert or meal, give 1 week notice. BYO alcohol is not accepted. Lovage cannot allow dogs or any other animals into the restaurant. An assistance dog is welcome; please give prior notice so the team can make space. Coffee by Lovage is different: Dogs welcome at the Bridge Street coffee shop, including its evening events.
